Texas Public Purchasing Association |
President's Message
Dear TxPPA Members,
I’m honored to be your 2025 President of the Texas Public Purchasing Association and entrusted with the administration of this great organization.
I’m a Charter member of TxPPA. I attended my first TxPPA Conference in 2008. My predecessor Jack Beacham was the first president of TxPPA. Jack as my mentor had been coaching me in the fundamentals of public purchasing, and he encouraged me to attend Conferences for professional development and networking with my peers. I’ve led local and national associations. I will lead this great state association with pride and hard work.
Over the last 28 years of my career with Tarrant County purchasing, I met many wonderful people through my connections. I treasure the friendships I’ve formed with my peers all over the country. I’ve served on the TxPPA board for the last 6 years. I’ve served under the leadership of many great past-presidents. I’ve learned so much from them.
TxPPA will continue to bring webinars and workshops around the state. Texas public purchasing professionals need training and the support of their peers more than ever to help their agency’s function and provide services with dwindling resources.
My goal, for TxPPA is to sustain and strengthen the organization’s most valuable products including the Spring & Fall Conferences. I hope to ensure that these programs are valuable.
I plan to continue content development for TxPPA’s website, webinars, and communications with social networks.
The TxPPA Board of Directors will implement ideas generated from the results of our strategic plan.
I will have the privilege to have a talented and hard-working group of individuals on the Board of Directors and committee chairs for the upcoming year. I’m excited about serving as president of this great organization. I welcome your ideas for how TxPPA can continue to provide excellent service to its membership.
I would love for you to serve on a committee. Learn more about the organization and build relationships.
Thank you again for this wonderful opportunity, and I hope to see all of you at the Kahari Resort in Round Rock in April!
Melissa Lee, C.P.M., A.P.P.

The Benefits of MembershipProfessional Development Opportunities:
TxPPA rigorously determines member needs and coordinates multiple training opportunities throughout the year. Annual Conferences: Each year, we present a spring and fall conference where members can meet, participate in professional development classes and seminars, join member discussions, get up to date on industry changes and legislation in public purchasing, and improve their professional standing - and their value to their employer! Legislative Updates: TxPPA tracks issues, bills and legislative changes relevant to public purchasing in Texas and provides informed counsel for laws and lawmakers that will improve the efficiency and effectiveness of public procurement in Texas. When laws change or new developments occur, our members are first to know! Communications: Access to TxPPAConnect (our members-only listserv), LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook updates, and other online professional tools. Our TxPPAConnect service is a Listserv which automatically forwards email from you to members who have subscribed to the service. Replies are also distributed to subscribers; it's a great way to share ideas and learn how other professionals deal with challenging situations. To send a message to other subscribers, just email [email protected] and the system will automatically distribute your message. If you have subscribed and are not receiving messages, your spam filters may be trapping the messages. Speak with your IT department and have them "white list" mail coming from [email protected]. Networking Opportunities: Our members have the opportunity to network with colleagues from across Texas at conferences and meetings and through our online tools. These networking opportunities promote the exchange of ideas, experiences, and fraternity in Texas public purchasing. |
